Community Engagement Process for
Revisioning of Indigenous Applicant Pool – Max Rady College of Medicine
Background
In 2018, the Max Rady College of Medicine (the College) at the University of Manitoba (the University, UM) engaged local Indigenous community members to better understand the values, characteristics, and qualities expected in candidates to the College’s undergraduate medical education program (UGME). The College’s Admissions Office (Admissions) is now conducting a follow-up community engagement process to further define community expectations for the Indigenous Applicant Pool pathway to the program. Admissions aims to respectfully engage with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit in Manitoba, supporting the College’s commitment to Reconciliation, with the hope of ultimately contributing to health equity among Indigenous people in Manitoba.
Through in-person engagement sessions, surveys, and teleconference interviews, Admissions is gathering input from health/education leadership and learners from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Manitoba.
Engagement Details
In order to gather input, Admissions is hosting engagement sessions in 6 locations in Manitoba from December 2024 to January 2025. The sessions will be facilitated by an external First Nations contractor, Kali Moss of Sage Solutions, and supported by Indigenous UM staff. In lieu of attending an in-person session, participants may complete this online survey.
Privacy
Survey responses are being collected by Sage Solutions in order to protect your anonymity. If you choose to withdraw your participation, your anonymous input will continue to be used as it will not be possible to remove it from the dataset due to its anonymous nature. Anonymous participant input will be summarized in a final report for the College’s use for process improvement.
